To be most itself
(2019)
solo percussion (found objects)

Program Note:
To be most itself is a playful exploration of objects and their many lives. Performed entirely on kitchen objects—pots, pans, utensils, and other found percussion—this piece explores the musicality of the mundane.
But beyond sound, To be most itself asks deeper questions about identity and purpose: What does it mean for an object—or a person—to fulfill its role? Can an object transcend its intended purpose, becoming something entirely new? I aim to bring these questions to life through sound, movement, and theatricality, creating a performance that blurs the line between utility and art, work and play, object and instrument.
To be most itself was composed for Euphina Yap and premiered at our masters recitals.
